Reginald Jenkins is the founder and executive director of UUNIK Academy, Inc. UUNIK (pronounced “unique”) is a rites of passage program dedicated to the holistic development of African-American male youth, ages 10-15, in the Knoxville area. In 2003, Reggie founded UUNIK Academy as an effort to develop African American male youth into respectful and respectable African American men. Reggie has worked in the Knox County School System as well as worked and volunteered for many youth programs in the Knoxville area.
For more than 20 years, Reggie has worked with youth and educated himself on what is needed to assist the youth in becoming productive adults. Leadership, African/African-American History, Self Esteem and Teen Entrepreneurship are some of the areas that UUNIK Academy has helped to develop participating youth. In 2006, Reggie successfully organized and financed UUNIK Academy’s first annual Calling All Males Youth Conference in which 35 youth participated. The purpose of the conference was to unite African American male youth with positive and professional African American men who facilitated workshops that would enhance the lives of those youth involved. In 2008, he organized UUNIK’s first annual Calling All Females Youth Conference in which 30 young ladies from Knoxville participated. Like the male conference, this conference united young African American females with positive and professional African American women. Since their inception, more than 500 youth have participated in both conferences. In addition to organizing youth conferences, Reggie has also found time to organize an annual College and Career Week at Vine Middle Magnet School in which local professionals and college students from various fields are matched with middle school classrooms to discuss and demonstrate their profession and/or field of study. The conferences and Career Week are annual events that continue to develop and uplift African American youth.
A professional speaker, author, and educational consultant, Reggie is a graduate of the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Statistics. Although his degree is in Math and Statistics, Reggie learned early that his passion is educating youth and training effective leaders. Reggie continues to educate himself in the areas of wealth creation, youth development, spirituality, health, history, and family development.
Reginald Jenkins has been happily married to Kamesha Bowen-Jenkins
